Help Me - I Got a Negative Review!

One of the best things about a community web page reviewing site is the huge variety in audience and opinion it can bring. On the flipside, this also means that — while you may have some huge fans — there may also be people don't like your website.

I'm sure that you personally know at least one person who has different music tastes to yourself, or likes a film that you don't like, and so on. This opinion of the things around us, our differing thoughts and feelings, they're all part of what make us human. This means that, when someone dislikes your website, they're not being mean, jealous and/or spiteful, they're exercising their right to free will and opinion.

Separating Experience and Animosity

Although it may be tempting after a bad/negative review to assume that the reviewer has a problem with you personally, this may not be (and often is not) the case. You need to consider the reviewer's experience, and whether or not it's likely that they've been in your situation before. A website reviewer who's been developing and designing websites for 5-6 years, may recognise their mistakes in your website and in pointing them out, hope to help you combat them sooner.

Think Before You Reply

Take a moment to step away from the computer, or browse away from the review before you reply. It's likely that by replying straight away you may say things that you could later regret, or react badly and insult someone who is actually trying to help. Remember that a long review can often take hours to complete, and it's not the sort of thing that someone would do just because they "hate" you.

Remember That It's An Opinion

Similar to that person who likes different films to you, your reviewers may like different websites to you. You may love your website; you may love its content and think that it doesn't need to be changed. You're within your right to not change anything based on the feedback of one person (or even a collection of persons). Furthermore, it may be that, while you found a review helpful in some regards, you don't intend to listen to all of it. Again, this is your prerogative and you are the owner of the website.

In the end, if you cannot bring yourself to accept a person's criticism whether or not you personally agree, and think that swearing or insulting the reviewer is the better option, you may need to ask yourself whether or not rev.iew.me and website reviewing in general is for you. If you can say "thank you" and move on, then you'll be a stronger person for it.
