First impressions...good cause. The colours and imagery set the old fashioned barber shop theme of the site (which I gather is what you are using as design inspiration?

I like the choice of the heading font...and the colour scheme suits the "manly" feel of the cause.

You could really egg that on a bit more and make it look even more like an old barber shop / Victorian sort of thing.

A short description of the site on the first page may be a good idea - so that people know what it is about straight away. At the moment, your About pages are practically hidden from plain sight because it is too small and near the top to notice - you need people to know what the site is about fairly promptly I would think. :)

I would just put them in the main navigation. You don't really need a Home link up at the top right, as the title of the site links back to the homepage.

The main top navigation under the title...I'm not sure about the hover background colour (#9F9881) with the text hover colour (#990000). These two colours on top of each other are not great for colour blindness.
There is a white/grey gradient separating each link too...it doesn't quite go with the colour scheme.
One idea that occurs to me, is that you could even make the navigation at the top look like one of those barber shop cane things.

For now I would consider changing the hover colours on the navigation bar so that they contrast with one another more, but still harmonise with the site.

The social bookmarking icons (twitter etc) are rather different from the rest of the design...I am sure there are some sketchy png icons you could use out there or even make yourself...that might match the brown/tan colours. You could just colourise them in Photoshop, and they would blend in more. It's not really a big issue though.

The banner at the bottom ought to be linked to the charity it is for and put in a more visible place.

Good site start overall. Good luck.

Excellent concept, and a worthy cause. However the design is a bit confusing - without the blurb here on rev.iew.me I doubt I would have known what it is about.

The typographic hierarchy is very conflicting - the blog headers fight for focus with the header and the type in the sidebar is also very distracting.

My suggestions are to increase the size of the "Movember" header, change the tagline typeface to match the blog headers, swap the colours for the header and tagline and decrease the size of the blog headers.

The two sets of navigation are odd - there is one above the search bar and a category based one below the header. Perhaps it would be better to join them into one bar. The styling on the navigation below the header does not fit well with the design. Getting rid of the borders and using a solid red background (or a similar styling to the "time left to grow that mo!" box) would give it a lot more emphasis.

The search box would sit better in the sidebar. I am not sure the search function is all that necessary with there being only a few pages of content.

As for the sidebar itself, it could be used to convey what your cause is. The blurb that has been written on rev.iew.me could be used as an opening statement. The sidebar will also sit better on the left, as it is the first place we as users scan. With the addition of an introductory text, users will be able to instantly tell what this blog is about.

I personally do not like the central alignment in the sidebar as it conflicts with the overall use of left alignment. It could just be the way the hierarchy is currently laid out. My suggestion is to block it in with text, styled headers and 100% width elements:

    - Welcome header.
    - Short, introductory paragraph. Left aligned.
    - Smaller, less intrusive social media icons. Left aligned.
    - Time left to grow that mo! 100% width.
    - (Donation progress? How much you've raised? 100% width.)
    - Donation links.
    - Search. 100% width.
    - Tweets. Left aligned.

Blocking in the sidebar with very little white space would look typographically similar to old ads and posters too, so it would maintain that historical aesthetic.

Here are some examples of what I mean (as loose inspiration, since some of this is typographic blasphemy :)):

    - http://www.yachigusaryu.com/blog/pics/ad_weider_1.jpg

The old photograph could be used elsewhere, as it is cluttering the sidebar. It may serve as a good default image for blog posts, as the inconsistency in image use draws attention away from the imageless posts.

Also, the banner in the footer may receive better exposure underneath the navigation under the header (with some top and bottom padding).

Overall this is a good effort and a very innovative idea. With a little clarification and cleaning up, I reckon there could be a lot of improvement. Good luck with the moustaches guys!

At first I though that this was going to be a blog and resource website, but it is not. Instead it is a charity. I also thought that "Movember" was the theme name and not the site name. I guess that teaches me not to judge books by their covers, no? Your layout makes me think of a newspaper online. It is quite cool to be honest. Too bad there are not any online newspapers where I am from. o.o I live in the middle of nowhere. By viewing your about page, it turns out that Movember is more popular than I thought it was. Growing mustaches for a charity is creative. I noticed that this is mostly a Europe organization, though. Unless the Movember Foundation has a website for the United States?

I have yet to understand how this fully works though. The majority of what I click on is in blogs, and that it kind of annoying. Overall it seems like a nice website owned by someone determined to help a charity raise enough money for a cancer. :]
