First impression and Layout
You know, I love your layout, and I can not tell you exactly why: because of creativity, because of the effects of the images ... The fact is that is so good and comfortable entering your site! Everything is in place: the post, the header, in short, nothing to say about your layout. Oh yes, one thing: I do not know, but I visualize your layout without the serrated black bar at the top, and I think it would be much cleaner! And it could highlight the many colors already in your layout. It is a simple detail, but I personally like the layout even more without him. Anyway, this is a personal thing, and the design itself has everything you need.
05/05Content
I love how the page file is organized. Gives several options for visitors to search the archives, and things like "the best of the best", your favorite posts, is really something very special. Actually I had never seen a page file, so organized and so original. In your page "about", I can say the same thing. It is organized and has everything you need, nothing in excess and nothing missing. I just think the picture is a bit small and poorly positioned, perhaps you should focus on it and put it in the beginning. Incidentally, I noticed that there is no effect on the images of the posts: this is a bit strange compared to the rest of the layout, which is so colorful. You can put a frame on it, even transparent, just to decorate.:)
How about creating a resource page? I saw that you have fantastic tutorials, and downloads, which until now only fill a page, but when you make more of them will be harder to find. Put them in all sections would be easier.
I admire your posts, because you can talk about various things, without clinging to labels. It is a personal blog, but not one of those common type of "what I did today." You really write. After all, this is what blogs should serve, is not it?
Conclusion
I already knew your blog, I'm in love with your posts and your tutorials help me a lot, but I can not be so exaggerated, so I'll give a 4.5. :)Using Opera on Linux | Report This?

Thankyou for your review & kind words! :-)
I'll try to return the review favour soon, but be forewarned that I've been kind of busy/distracted lately so it might be awhile :P

on 24th Jul 2010 and said:Hey there, pal. I'm going to review your lovely site. :)
Layout
I really like this layout; it's simple but has enough variety so that it's not boring or drab. I also like all the little doodles - it reminds me of not paying attention in class. I don't know why, but the little horizontal image at the top and bottom of the page (the black zig-zag) is really cute. Something else I like is how big the text is. I can read it! I love how you use images for sidebar headers and the footer - it spices up the page. The only problem I have is that there doesn't seem to be a color scheme. Just a lot of colors. That's not really a bad thing though; I'm probably biased 'cause I'm boring and like monotonous things.
I completely adore how I hover over links and they have the image roll-over effect. (That's an obsession of mine.) To me, it makes a site look so much cooler, especially for simple designs like this.
4.5/5About Me Page
It's very organized and by reading it, I can gather a general sense of who you are. It also makes me want to read your blogs (which I already do). I like that you have a link at the top that leads to the 'about the site' part.
5/5Blogs
I like your blogs because they're not the usual "I went to work. I had spaghetti. Then I threw it up." They're funny, interesting, and easy to relate to. Not to mention, inspiring. After first reading your blog entries, I tried to start writing about things other than the mundane stuff. Not only are your blogs entertaining, but they're helpful. I'm already working on changing my Javascript image hovers. Keep up the good work!
5/5Conclusion
There's not much I can say besides you have an admirable site and great entries. You're a good role-model for newbies and even experienced website owners. I feel like I'm brown-nosing, but I'm really being honest.

Sillyish's Response:
Well thanks for your niceness! I love brown nosing, and am never opposed to an ego boost :-P
I see where you're coming from on the colour scheme point, it's something that has bothered me in the past too. Most of my layouts don't have a very strong sense of "colour scheme" even though I know it would be a good idea to do so. For some reason it just bores me after a week of staring at the same set of colours.
So. Compromise: Free reign for colours on my personal site, boring blah colours on my portfolio :-P
Anyway, thanks again. I'll hit ya back one of these days, I keep planning on it, but your site for some reason is hard to review. I've started and stopped a few times!
Oh and also: Your site inspired that mouseover tutorial :-P So I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Nothing really bad to say from me! :)

on 28th Jun 2010 and said:I do agree with SimplyTragic about the simplicity factor. I like that you made the layout easy to navigate around. I can tell that you put most of your effort into the content of your website and not on trying to make your layout include all the bells and whistles.
One thing that did bother me was the size of your main content font. It seemed a bit too large for my liking. My opinion may be a little biased though, since I'm so accustomed to choosing 11px fonts for nearly everything. I just didn't like having to scroll down so much to read just a smidge of your blog (slight exaggeration).
I really enjoy the colors you chose for this layout, as well. I cannot begin to explain how many times I've seen a layout fall through because the creator chose colors that are way too bright for a brain to handle. You managed to pick some fun colors AND keep them at an acceptable level of brightness. Your greens are bright, but not too bright, know what I mean? You make your site look much more personal with the fun "hand-written" graphics. I realized that it looks more like a journal instead of a... site! I almost had forgotten I was looking at a monitor for a bit.
I also noticed your use of page anchors. I hate when people have a web-page stuffed with content, and after scrolling aaaall the way down to read it, you realize you have to scroll aaaall the way back up to the top. You had really nifty anchors on your longer web-pages to make it easier for the visitor. These are really great and convenient for lazy people like me. Good thinking on your part.
All in all, I can't find much wrong with your website. It's fun, very personal, and it just feels kind of... homey. It's inviting and the graphics you've used aren't too overwhelming. It's user-friendly, and aside from the big-ish font, it's great! Awesome job on Life as Rose. Keep it up!

Sillyish's Response:
After getting two reviews re: the font, I made some changes. It's still large, but I'm using a different font that's hopefully not as annoying as the last one :-)
Thanks for all your compliments on the other things, it's nice to hear. Although I would say that I do put a lot of effort into 'bells and whistles' - it's just that I'm more into the subtle bells and whistles than the loud ones :P

on 20th Jun 2010 and said:First thing I thought when I opened your site - where should I look first? There's a lot going on here, and that can be quite confusing. Now, I like sites with lots of color and creativity, but your site fills up a large space with much white, yet there's dots of colors spread around: the header, the sidebar links and the blog titles, making it hard to decide where to rest the eyes.
Your fonts are quite chaotic too, with different styles in both navigation, links, headings and main text. It's best to stick to just a few similar ones that go great together. I really don't like the bold, red headings. They look crass against your softer header. The Trebuchet MS in your main text doesn't go very well with the rest, and it is much, much to big. The two link colors in entries (blue in post meta data and pink in the entires) are also very random. You've used the colors from the header in the sidebar links, and that's great. Why not use them in headings and links too? That way, it will all fit together much better.
Else than that, your site is very organized and simple, and that's awesome. There's no doubt where to find things here!

Sillyish's Response:
Thanks for your review; I changed the header colour for ya. Note: I don't use trebuchet ms anywhere in my design, and my text def. isn't too big I don't think, so I'm wondering if your browser is somehow rendering things diffrently? I'd be interested in a screenshot...
Thanks!

Oh and btw, I've never done a review before in my life, so don't take everything I say too seriously. :)
